Taking Stock – January 2018

blog combo x 3 me with stick

Inspired by the beautiful and clever Pip Lincolne of Meet Me At Mikes, I decided to do my own ‘Taking Stock’ this month, given that’s it been a bit of a monumental start to the year. You can see Pip’s own ‘Taking Stock’ over here.

Making :
Progress with health, slowly, slowly catchy monkey. And I’ve made one granny square, aiming for more so I can make a cardi thing, inspired by one of Pip’s recent makings.

Cooking :
I’m craving zesty, fresh and light things, salsa, tzatziki, baked salmon, steamed veg, sushi. I do a little bit of food prep but husband does most of it, given my state of not-too-wellness. Continue reading

first trip out of the house, with headband for visual cluing and one ear deafness comfort

It has been an age between blog posts but I feel compelled to write.

The tables have been turned, the world is upside down and I’ve been turned inside out. And I am literally spinning.

This blog and website used to be about me as a Naturopath and my pursuit to assist others to follow their wellness path. But because of my own health issues over the past few years I am no longer a practicing naturopath and my health focus has become introspected. I’m grateful for all of those years of naturopathic training which now make me an accomplished medical self-advocate and make it easier to navigate the illness landscape.

My collection of health tags over the past year or so include: chronic fatigue syndrome, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), severe obstructive sleep apnea, fibromyalgia, depression, recurrent miscarriage and infertility. Continue reading

being grateful

365gratefuls cover

On Christmas Eve a new book I had ordered arrived. It was a good Christmas present for myself.

365 gratefuls, the book, originated from a project by Hailey Bartholomew. In 2008 Hailey had decided to embark on a year long project in which she took a polaroid of a moment every day that she was grateful for, in order to fight depression. It worked. Continue reading

things that bring me joy – Be Free

be free zine 2

I have loved the work of Be Free for a while now – this was one of my first exposures to her work that I loved – here.

So I was SO excited when, this morning, early-ish, I popped onto facebook and discovered that she and Akemi Ito, were installing super fabulous free zine package boxes around my locale. I immediately popped on my trackie daks and ran out the door. Continue reading

I am in a state of excitement… Its’s nice. But….

I know from experience that sometimes what happens is that I get overexcited and then I get overexhausted. So this time, I’m going to try and do things a bit different. I want the excitement to stay, but the energy to stay around to sustain it.

My excitement has come from a number of things that happened last week, which was topped off superbly nicely by Clare Bowditch’s Big Hearted Business conference. Continue reading

sunny side of the street

Do you cross the street to walk on the sunny side? I do. Mostly.

This afternoon in chilly Melbourne the sky was super blue and the sun did shine. I crossed the street and soaked it up.

Happy in the sunshine in orange slacks and sneakers.

Lovely.

My first night at a craft group

Here is my story, of fact, not fiction, which I feel like sharing; especially with those that may be thinking of joining a craft group and may have a few first night nerves.

It was February I think, 2009, my first Brown Owls in real life experience. A Brown Owls article in Frankie magazine had inspired me, whilst on a flight to Brisbane for Christmas just before. I remember it well. That was the first time I discovered Frankie as well as the first time I discovered Brown Owls – a pretty inspirational combination. Continue reading

handmade soulful-ness

this is a beautiful blog which i read this morning – it is titled ‘being me’. i feel it needs to be shared, because i think it is very lovely and very human.

These are some of the good words: “I really feel the need to connect my mind, body and soul in a way I have never put much thought in to before. I’m not quite sure how or what path I’m going to take but I know I need change to feel happier and healthier. My being is screaming out for it. Continue reading
